My favorite animals to chase in my most favorite time, Early Season Archery Mule Deer. There’s something to be said about rutting Mule Deer in November, but pulling a tag for that in the West is becoming more and more difficult. That glowing velvet on warm summer nights is so special. Because of that, I have dedicated years of my life and become addicted to doing so. With doing that, I’ve used gear that I loved and used gear that I’ve hated. You experience the extremes of weather and being prepared for that is vital to success. Afternoon monsoons with torrential downpours, extreme heat approaching the triple digit mark, and cool crisp mornings dipping as far down as the mid 30s. So with that, my clothing system is essential and also make or break in some cases. Most of the time, I’m leaving camp and won’t return until well after daylight so I have to pack for every occasion. Puffy down jacket in the morning to stay warm but also light, rain gear with jacket and pants, and head to toe in merino to help regulate body temperature and scent. With my boots I try to stay as light as possible so typically running a full synthetic lightweight trail runner that helps when navigating tricky stalks and silence is a must. On top of all that, my optics, backpack, electronics and everything I need for the harvest of an animal is very crucial and is the best of the best for these adventures. While taking everything I might need for a full day with all circumstances thrown at me,  I try to stay as lightweight and mobile as possible.
