Isaiah's Idaho Archery Elk Gear List

Since my first encounter with a bugling bull during archery season, archery elk hunting has been one of my passions. It took me four years of hunting with a bow before I killed my first bull. Over the years I have been fortunate enough to archery hunt multiple states for elk. Idaho lands at the top of the stack for me due to its diversity. You can hunt elk at 3,000 feet in agriculture fields up to 11,000+ feet above treeline and everywhere in between. Idaho has units that can accommodate almost any style of hunter. Some hunts I have spent day hunting from the truck the entire season where others I have spent backpacked in miles from the trailhead. Sometimes you have to adapt on the fly because hunt plans change, so having the right gear for any scenario is key. Over the years I have spent more money testing gear than I care to admit. However, I feel like it has been a good investment because having the wrong gear on any hunt can lead to issues. The gear list below is sorted into pull out bags and arranged in my pack depending on what items I use most. The only thing that really changes depending on if I am hunting from the truck or packing in is the amount of food, water, and camping gear I pack.
